Candomble is an African/Brazilian religious dance ritual. Its origins are Yoruban (Nigerian). American expatriate artist Richard de Menocal was born in 1919. He fell in love with Brazilian culture, and made it his home. The image image measures 26 by 18 and one half inches. The original solid chestnut wood frame measures 27 by 33 and three quarters inches. Note: Richard de Menocal's "Lady Comes to Call" a 10.75 x 6 watercolor and ink on paper, was estimated at $500-700.00 and brought $4250.00, at Sotheby's Kennedy Family Homes Sale 2/15 to 2/16/2005, lot 369, catalog page 225. This was a sale of items collected from the Kennedy homes in Hyannisport, Martha's Vineyard, NYC, Virginia, & New Jersey.
